Recycling Blue Jeans

We all are cleaning out our closet getting rid of the old, and putting in the new. But don't drop off the jeans at Goodwill yet!  I am going to show you some ways to re-use your old shorts or blue jeans! Make sure to ask your parents before you cut up your pants!

                                       Shorts into a skirt
Transform your old shorts into a skirt! This is so cool and fun! Make sure the shorts are as long as you want                                                               the skirt to be. Here are a bunch of videos to help you!

                                        Blue Jean Purse
Adorable easy to make purse! The Purse will look like whatever your jeans looked like. I added a belt :)

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Sewing machine
  • Pair of jeans
  • Matching thread
  • Embellishments
    • 1
Lay the jeans on a flat surface with the back pockets facing up.
    • 2
Cut the legs off of the jeans and set them aside.
    • 3
      Turn the jeans inside-out.
    • 4
With the sewing machine, stitch the opening where the legs used to be together. Do this by folding the fabric over once and sewing a zig-zag stitch along the raw edge.
    • 5
Go back to the legs of the jeans. Cut one open so that it is a long strip of fabric.
    • 6
Decide how long you want your purse's shoulder strap and add two inches to that length. (if you are using shorts, you will have to have very short straps)
    • 7
Cut the leg into a strip that is as long as the measurement above and four inches wide.
    • 8
Fold the strip in half with the inside facing out.
    • 9
Fold the raw edges over a half-inch and sew the edges down with a zigzag stitch. Now you should have a long tube of fabric. Turn the tube inside out.
    • 10
Fold the raw edges inside of the tube and sew the strap to the inside edges of the purse on each side about an inch down.
    • 11
      Embellish the purse.

Blue Jean neck pillow
easy pillow craft teens

You'll need:
  • Recycled blue jeans; one leg
  • Gross grain ribbon; 4 10-inch pieces
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing
  • Fabric puff paint
  1. Using the fabric puff paint, write a nickname or first name on one side of the blue jeans. Allow to fully dry. Be sure to use fabric paint and don’t be tempted to use any other. This pillow will need to be washed and other paints not only come off fabrics in the washer, they can damage other items washed immediately after. Want to guess how I know?

    2. Tie a ribbon to the end of the leg in a square knot. Repeat with a second ribbon. Allow the ends of the ribbon to dangle.
