This is a 3-in-1 combo DIY-- beach towel, pillow, and a bag! Carry this homemade tote to the beach to hold the necessities. Then just unroll to tan in comfort! Last year I entered this project into the county fair and received a merit!
All you need
Beach towel
Hand Towel
Sewing Machine
Ribbon (for straps)
Extra Fabric (for pockets, about a yard)
Cotton stuffing OR a cheap pillow (you can cut it open and use that stuffing)
Pins
Sewing Scissors
Layout your beach towel. Place the hand towel where you will want your pillow.
Pin the hand towel to the beach towel.
Keep pinning!
Next, sew the hand towel to the beach towel, removing pins as you reach them. All of your seems will be seen, so keep them tidy!
Only sew three and a half sides, leaving an opening to stuff the pillow.
Cut open the cheap pillow to get to the stuffing.
Stuff the pillow!
Sew closed the opening where you pinned. This might be a little tricky.
After you finish the pillow, lay out the fabric and decide how you want your pockets divided. Roll up your bag the way it will be when its finished and lay it out so you can get a good idea of what you want. First, I doubled up my fabric and cut to an appropriate size. Next pin the fabric, wrong sides together.
Sew the sides, not sewing what will be the top of the pocket.
Turn it inside out.
After that, sew in half to divide the one pocket into two pockets.
Sew one more pocket the same way.
{to decide where to have your pocket, roll up your towel. Then put the pockets on each side. Remember, it does NOT need to be perfect.}
Now sew your pockets onto the towel.
Next comes the straps. Decide how long you want them to be. Pin them to bag. Attach by sewing around in a square several times.
Notice how the straps look like they are in random places on the bag. Make sure you roll up your towel to decide where to sew them. The placement is a little tricky.
And this is the finished product!
Summer might seem far off, but be prepared, it is coming soon. And you will need this bag!
I just found your blog through Pinterest! It seems so cute- maybe we can be blogger friends??

^don't judge ;) ^
A little confused; because of brown hand towel and orange and white chevron fabric in instructions. Neither one show up in the finished product, so hard to know how this was done exactly. I'm a little confused with instructions.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you're confused by the instructions/photos! My friend and I were making the same project at the same time with different materiel, so that is why some photos are of the other project.
