Thanksgiving Crafts

Make some of these crafts with your little relatives to keep them entertained before the big meal!

                       Spoon Pilgrims!

Very simple!

 What you need...

  • 2 plastic spoons
  • Construction paper: white and brown, blue, gray or black
  • 4 small wiggle eyes
  • White craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Gold painter pen (optional)
  • Patterns (optional. You can cut out your own shapes)

How to make it:

  1. Print patterns. (optional) Cut out clothing and man's hat from blue, gray, black or brown paper. Cut the collars, hat band, woman's bonnet and skirt hem from white paper.
  2. Glue clothing together per pattern. Glue clothing and hats to the handles of the spoons. Make sure the spoons are back side facing up.
  3. Glue the wiggle eyes to the spoon faces, or draw faces on with Sharpies.  Let everything dry.
  4. You can use a gold paint pen to draw on a buckle for the man's hat. If you would like to embellish your pilgrims, draw and cut out items for them to hold such as a bowl of corn or a musket. Cut simple arms from strips of construction paper that match the color of their clothing.
Paper Cup Turkeys!

 What you'll need:
  • Paper or foam cup (8.5 oz)
  • Acrylic paint in fall colors (brown, tan, orange, red, green, yellow, etc.)
  • Large pom-pom for head (brown, yellow, red, orange, etc.)
  • Small foam heart for gobbler (to contrast with color of head)
  • Small foam triangle (orange or yellow)
  • 2 small wiggle eyes
  • 3” x 2” piece of orange construction paper
  • 1 sheet of white construction paper
  • White craft glue
  • Scissors

How to make it:

  1. Place cup upside down on work surface and paint brown.
  2. To make the feathers, paint the white construction paper with several fall colors, crisscrossing the colors as you go. Let dry.
  3. Cut feathers out in one large piece, should be shaped similar to a hand or crown. Cut the tips of each feather into a point.
  4. Apply glue to the bottom portion of the feathers and press onto the bottom of the cup. Hold in place for a minute or so to let the glue grab.
  5. Place foam heart upside down so that the bumps are facing downward. Glue the foam triangle, point down, onto the upside down heart--the upper points of the triangle will be hanging over the edge. This is the beak and gobbler.
  6. Glue the pom-pom to the top of the paper cup.
  7. Glue the wiggle eyes and the beak and gobbler to the head.
  8. Cut two feet from the orange construction paper and glue to the bottom of the cup.

Hand print turkey craft!
Turkey handprint

  • Trace around child's hand at the bottom of the paper.  This will be the Turkey's tail.
  • Color or paint hand print.

  • Draw 2 small eyes, a triangle beak and a gobbler to complete
    • you can cut a peanut shape out of paper for the body, glue it to the center of the hand print and draw the face on that if you like.
    • see picture above for how it should end up looking.
Here's a cute poem you could write on it!

This isn't just a turkey as you can plainly see.

I made it with my hand which is a part of me.

It comes with lots of love especially to say,

I hope you have a very, Happy Thanksgiving Day!
